Foreign citizens (including EU and EEA citizens) who wish to work and reside in Greenland must apply for a residence and work permit.

In Greenland, there are different residence and work permits that applicants can consider depending on their situation and the purpose of their stay.

Here are some of the primary schemes:

Work permit:
- This permit is relevant for foreign nationals who have received a job offer from a Greenlandic employer. A concrete contract is necessary to apply
- You can apply for both the Fast Track scheme, the EU scheme and as a third-country national
Accompanying family member:
- If you are a family member of a person who already has a permit to work and live in Greenland, you can apply for a permit as an accompanying family member. This includes spouses, cohabitants (with a cohabitation of at least 1.5-2 years), children and other close family members
Student:
- Foreign students who have received a study admission from a recognized educational institution in Greenland can apply for a residence and work permit. It may include students at bachelor's, master's or PhD level.
Research and education:
- Persons who wish to carry out research or participate in educational activities in Greenland can apply for a permit under this category. This typically applies to researchers, PhD students and the like.

Passport:

Copy of all pages of your passport, incl. all blank pages as well as the front and back of the passport.

Work permit (for workers):

Copy of the employment contract or job offer from a Greenlandic employer.
Any relevant qualifications or professional certificates.
Possibly. completed municipal permit (permit to employ foreign workers)

Study admission (for students):

Official document from a recognized educational institution in Greenland that confirms study admission.
Evidence of sufficient financial support to cover accommodation costs.

Family relationship (for accompanying family members):

Spouses and cohabitants: copy of marriage certificate and any documents confirming cohabitation.
Children: copy of birth certificate.
Any documentation documenting the family relationship, as required.
