EU citizens and nationals from the EEA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) have the right to stay in Denmark for up to three months without the need for a residence permit. This also applies to Swiss citizens due to Switzerland's association agreement with the EU.

Here are some of the most common types of residence permits that EU citizens can apply for:

Residence without professional activity (residence card):
EU citizens who wish to stay in Denmark for more than three months without working or studying can apply for a residence card. This applies, for example, to for pensioners, the unemployed, or people who want to live with their family in Denmark.
Stay with business activity (work permit):
If you, as an EU citizen, want to work in Denmark for more than three months, you must apply for a work permit.
Student residence (student residence card):
EU citizens who wish to study in Denmark for more than three months must apply for a student residence card. This applies to all levels of education, including bachelor's, master's and PhD studies.
Family residence (family residence card):
EU citizens who wish to live with their family members who are already resident in Denmark for more than three months must apply for a family residence card.

Passport:

Copy of all pages of your passport, incl. all blank pages as well as the front and back of the passport. Applicants must have a valid passport or national ID card from their home country.

Confirmation of employment (only relevant for people who must work):

If the applicant applies for a work permit, an employment contract or a letter of employment from a Danish employer must normally be presented. This document must contain information on terms of employment, including salary, working hours and job description.

Proof of residence:

Applicants must also provide documentation for housing in Denmark, e.g. a lease or property documents

Financial means (applies to everyone other than employees):

Applicants must provide documentation of sufficient financial means to cover their living expenses during their stay in Denmark. This may include bank statements, payslips or a statement of financial aid.

Depending on the individual applicant's situation and the purpose of their stay in Denmark, there may be additional documentation requirements that they must meet.
